Five teams from AWE raised over £1,000 for charity when they took on the mighty Brecon Beacons to win the 2026 UK Challenge.

The Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, Andrew Try, chatted with military veterans when he visited AWE Nuclear Security Technologies (AWE) at Aldermaston.

As AWE continues to deliver its mission of keeping the UK safe and secure through science, technology and engineering, the demand for highly specialised engineering expertise continues to grow.

We are proud to be playing a role in a significant national milestone to strengthen the UK’s defence skills pipeline.

AWE operates at the heart of a network of expert partners, working together to keep the UK safe and secure through science, technology and engineering.

Across the UK, scientific organisations benefit from a rich ecosystem of expertise spanning universities, industry, specialist laboratories and research centres.

When people think about science, they often picture experiments, researchers and breakthrough ideas. Less visible (but equally important) is the infrastructure that makes those breakthroughs possible.

AWE has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable workplace by supporting the Women in Defence Charter, a sector-wide initiative designed to improve gender balance across the UK defence enterprise.

AWE's Nuclear Threat Reduction programme works closely with colleagues in the United States, a long-standing international partnership dedicated to strengthening global nuclear security.

A survey has revealed that AWE's Aldermaston site is home to a collection of ancient, veteran and notable trees, highlighting the site's rich natural heritage and reinforcing AWE's commitment to protecting valuable ecosystems.

AWE colleagues are making a lasting difference in local communities through the company's school volunteering programme, helping to improve learning environments while inspiring stronger connections between industry and education.

At its heart, science is a way of understanding the world around us. It is about asking questions, testing ideas, gathering evidence and using knowledge to solve problems.
