Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire visits AWE Aldermaston

The Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, Andrew Try, chatted with military veterans when he visited AWE Nuclear Security Technologies (AWE) at Aldermaston.
He also toured the Orion laser facility and had a close look at some of the items in the Educational Collection, which showcases the history of the UK’s nuclear deterrent programme.
Mr Try heard from AWE chief executive officer Nick Elliott and chief research officer Andrew Randewich, how AWE’s unique responsibility on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, its mission to support UK National Security, is delivered via partnerships and long-term investment in skills, science and technology.
AWE is undergoing significant transformation to modernise infrastructure, capabilities and ways of working, in support of long-term capability and the Lord Lieutenant was able to see the scale and complexity of the transformation himself as he travelled around the site.
AWE actively supports members of the Armed Forces community, welcoming the valuable leadership, operational and specialist skills they bring with them and Mr Try spent time with several military veterans and reservists now working in key project areas at AWE.
