As a Quality Inspector Apprentice, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the precision and reliability of components used in both production and trials environments.
You’ll learn to inspect a wide range of mechanical and electrical parts, working from detailed drawings and written procedures. Your training will include using first principle measurements with hand tools, as well as operating advanced, computer-guided precision equipment.
THE QUALIFICATIONS YOU’LL NEED
Five GCSE’s at Grade 4/C or above to include Maths and English.
You’ll need to be a British Citizen for security clearance.
You’ll be based at one of our sites with one day a week off-site at college.
At AWE, we operate on a nine-day fortnight – meaning you get every other Friday off work in addition to 270 hours of annual leave.

You’ll begin your journey at our Skills Academy, where you’ll build a strong foundation in inspection techniques and engineering principles.
Once you’ve developed your core skills, you’ll move into a live working environment, applying what you’ve learned to real-world tasks. You’ll inspect a variety of mechanical and electrical components, working from technical drawings and written procedures, and using both traditional hand tools and advanced precision measurement equipment.
Alongside your practical training, you’ll study towards a Level 3 Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician Apprenticeship, which includes a Level 3 Diploma in Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technologies.
This role may be perfect for you if you’re naturally curious and enjoy hands-on, practical work. You might love taking things apart and putting them back together, fixing or building projects at home or school, or getting involved in clubs that explore how things work.
It’s also ideal if you prefer a practical, problem-solving approach to learning.
