Metrology Apprenticeship

Your mission

Metrology is the science of measurement, and it plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and reliability of products and components.

You’ll learn how to apply core measurement principles in real-world environments, using tools, instrumentation, and software to plan and carry out precise measurement tasks.

Your journey

Your practical training will begin in the Skills Academy, where you’ll build your core knowledge and technical skills.

You’ll then rotate through different areas of AWE, applying what you’ve learned in live production and trial settings.

Alongside your workplace experience, you’ll study at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in London, working towards the Level 3 Metrology Technician apprenticeship. On successful completion, you’ll be eligible for professional registration as a Registered Engineering Technician (EngTech) or Registered Science Technician (RSciTech).
