HPC Apprenticeship

Your mission

As a High Performance Computing (HPC) Apprentice, you’ll be part of a team managing some of the most powerful supercomputers in the UK. These systems are critical to AWE’s scientific and engineering programmes and you’ll play a key role in keeping them running smoothly.

WORK PATTERN

•    Attention to detail
•    Patience when approaching complex tasks
•    Good communication skills
•    The ability to follow instructions
•    IT skills

Your journey

As a High Performance Computing (HPC) Apprentice, you will spend the first few weeks of your apprenticeship within AWE’s Skills Academy; before moving out into different placements within the HPC group.

These placements will give you hands-on experience in areas such as Linux system administration, shell scripting, hardware maintenance, networking, file systems, system monitoring, and computer security.

Most of your training will be in-house but may also include technical training courses.

Think you’ve got what it takes?

This role is ideal for someone who’s fascinated by computing, curious about how things work, and excited by the idea of using technology to support science and engineering.

There may also be opportunities to attend HPC conferences in the UK and overseas, so a willingness to travel is a plus.
