Materials Engineering
Why did you choose AWE?
I was attracted to the structured graduate programme which showed real development options such as chartership & accreditation. I also knew that there would be a lot of career progression which really appealed to me.
Tell us about your time at AWE?
I develop, plan, run and assess experiments that provide data for modelling simulations.
What are the benefits of AWE?
The main benefit for me is the significant input you have into your own development. There are always lots of training opportunities, symposiums and workshops to attend. Other benefits include the great work – life balance such as the 9 day fortnight that you get here but also the vast facilities that are available such as gyms, clubs and activities.
What do you most enjoy about your current role?
No two days are the same! I’m not just in an office all day, my time is split roughly 50-50 between office and lab work which goes well with the different styles of projects I get to work on which all have different challenges and rewards.
How do you see your career progressing?
Onwards and upwards I hope! But it should be planned and realistic.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about joining the AWE graduate programme?
Definitely go for it! Be open to different styles of working and be open to learning lots of new things but also re-learning things you may have done in the past.
