Life after the military
At AWE, we recognise the value of military experience – not just in technical skill, but in leadership, resilience, and purpose. Whether you’re a veteran, service leaver, or reservist, we’re here to help you build a meaningful second career.
Making the transition from military to a civilian role can be daunting, but you can be assured that we truly value the unique skills you’ll bring us. We have a strong network within AWE of veterans and reservists that have successfully made the transition.
We pro-actively support and encourage members of the Reservist community to continue their roles alongside their day jobs. As a signatory of the Armed Forces covenant, we are committed to recognising the valuable contribution that military veterans, reservists and cadet volunteers make to the business and society.
Work/life balance
Transitioning from military to civilian life can feel like a big step. To make it easier, we offer a nine-day fortnight, 270 hours of holiday and the chance to continuously develop your career.
At AWE, we understand that veterans and reservists bring exceptional discipline, leadership, and resilience to the workplace, qualities forged through service and vital to our mission. In return, we offer a supportive environment that respects the need for work/life balance.

Built-in community
You won’t be alone.
AWE is proud to host an active Armed Forces Veterans and Reservists Network, bringing together employees who have served, continue to serve, or support the military community.
This network connects people with shared experiences, offering support, camaraderie, and a space to stay connected to your roots.
Whether you’re transitioning from service or looking to continue making an impact, AWE is a place where your military background is respected, celebrated, and empowered.
Flexibility for Reservists
At AWE, we proudly support veterans and reservists through our Special Leave policy, recognising the valuable skills and experience they bring to our mission of national security.
Employees who serve in the UK Reserve Forces, including cadet instructors, are eligible for up to 10 days of special paid leave annually for military training.
