Level 4 apprenticeships are equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree, or a Higher National Certificate (HNC), while Level 5 apprenticeships are equivalent to a foundation degree, or a Higher National Diploma (HND).
These apprenticeships are a great option if you want practical skills and career progression without fully committing to a university degree.
You’ll start earning straight away with a salary of £22,250.

Chemistry Laboratory Technician
Level 5
The Materials and Analytical Sciences function is responsible for the research, testing and analysis of several different materials ranging from warhead components to environmental samples. This work is vital in assuring our mission to safely deliver the warhead is accomplished.
As a Materials and Analytical Science Laboratory Technician Apprentice, you will spend the first few weeks of your apprenticeship within the Skills Academy building your basic knowledge and core skills before joining the Materials and Analytical Sciences team based in our laboratories.

Facilities Management
Level 4
As a Facilities Management Apprentice at AWE you will need strong communication and customer service skills and be able to adapt and respond well to challenging situations. There will be broad and varied career opportunities, working every day to maintain the safety, security, and wellbeing of our buildings, and that of the teams who work in them. As an apprentice you will develop a comprehensive understanding of both facility management, and how AWE operates. You’ll need to be a good team player as well as able to self-motivate and influence stakeholders at all levels of the business.

Quality Practitioner
Level 4
Through a series of placements within the Quality function, you will gain experience in the management and review of our processes and procedures and how we apply them. You will help to improve the level of our products and services by building a deep understanding of performance measurements and investigating issues to discover root-cause and prevent repeat problems.
You’ll be involved in many activities including measurements of weight or dimensions to make sure the requirements are met. In addition to the on-the-job aspects of your training, you will further your knowledge of quality through academic studies working towards a professional qualification. On successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will be eligible for professional registration to the Chartered Quality Institute Practitioner.
