As a CAD Technician Apprentice, you’ll be combining creativity, accuracy, and engineering insight.
Working at the heart of our Mechanical Engineering Design team, your work will bring ideas to life. Using Siemens NX CAD software, you’ll create detailed 3D models and precise 2D drawings that meet exact specifications and company standards. Your work will support the design and manufacture of components that play a vital role in our mission.
THE QUALIFICATIONS YOU’LL NEED
5 GCSE’s at grade 4/C or above including Maths and English AND a 5/B in Science.
You’ll need to be a British Citizen for security clearance.
You’ll be based at our Aldermaston site with one day a week off-site at college.
At AWE, we operate on a nine-day fortnight – meaning you get every other Friday off work in addition to 270 hours of annual leave.

Your path begins at our Skills Academy, where you’ll gain hands-on experience with the tools and techniques that form the foundation of great engineering such as mastering basic hand-fitting and machining skills. Alongside your practical training, you’ll attend a local college.
Once your workshop training is complete, you’ll step into real-world engineering environments through placements in our Design Offices. Here, you’ll collaborate with experienced professionals and build the problem-solving and safety awareness skills that define a confident, capable engineer.
If you’re curious about mechanical engineering, 3D modelling, technical drawing, or design communication, and you’re eager to learn, collaborate, and take on new challenges, we want to hear from you.
