Building Services Apprenticeship

Your mission

As a Building Services Engineering Degree Apprentice, you’ll ensure our facilities run safely, securely, and efficiently. They support everything we do and are essential to our success as we update our critical infrastructure.

Throughout the programme, you’ll take on design projects that simulate real working environments, using computer modelling and lab experiments to refine your ideas.

You’ll need to be a British Citizen for security clearance.

Your journey

You’ll attend university one day a week and learn through lectures, workshops, group projects, and hands-on lab work. Your progress will be assessed through coursework, exams, and practical assignments.

We’ll start by building your understanding of the scientific principles behind mechanical and electrical building services. From there, you’ll dive deeper into how systems like heating, ventilation, and air conditioning are operated and controlled.

In your final year, the focus shifts to sustainability, exploring energy resources, dynamic thermal performance, and low-carbon technologies like combined heat and power and wind generation.

We’ll work with you to shape your final role when you complete your apprenticeship so you can step into your future as a professional engineer.

Think you’ve got what it takes?

You enjoy solving problems from different angles, whether that’s coding a Raspberry Pi, restoring a bike or rewiring a light fitting.

You might have dabbled in hacking electronics, building audio projects, or maintaining mechanical systems like clocks or cars.

You’re hands-on, curious, and always looking to improve your practical skills. Most of all, you’re excited by the idea of applying engineering principles to real-world challenges and seeing the impact of your work in action.
