AWE engineers recognised with prestigious Whitworth Scholarship Awards
AWE engineers have again been recognised through the prestigious Whitworth Scholarship Awards, underlining the organisation’s continued strength in developing outstanding engineering talent.
Founded in 1868 by pioneering British engineer Sir Joseph Whitworth, the Whitworth Scholarships are regarded as one of the UK’s most respected honours for engineers. The awards recognise individuals who demonstrate an exceptional combination of academic ability, practical engineering skill and professional potential. Rather than selecting a single winner, the scheme awards scholarships annually to a small national cohort of high‑performing engineers.
The scholarships are particularly distinctive in their focus on engineers who have progressed through apprenticeships or vocational routes and are now undertaking, or completing, degree‑level study.
When appointed, recipients are Whitworth Award holders for the duration of their university studies. Award holders receive financial support alongside access to professional development opportunities and a powerful international network. Upon completion of their studies, recipients are elected as Whitworth Scholars and become lifelong members of the Whitworth Society- an independent, member‑led body that promotes engineering excellence and brings together scholars at all career stages, from early‑career engineers to senior leaders across industry and academia.
In the 2025 round, three AWE engineers were recognised with Whitworth Scholarship Awards. Their success continues AWE’s strong recent track record in the scheme, with ten successful employees over the past three years, and reflects both individual achievement and AWE’s long‑standing commitment to supporting engineers through hands‑on experience, academic study and professional development.
Congratulations to all three recipients on this outstanding achievement, which reflects both their personal dedication and the strength of engineering development at AWE. Nominations have now closed for the 2026 awards, and we look forward to celebrating more AWE colleagues’ Whitworth achievements in the years ahead.
