AWE materials scientist appointed Visiting Professor at the University of Strathclyde

We are delighted to announce that AWE materials scientist Scott McCulloch has been appointed Visiting Professor at the University of Strathclyde.

Visiting Professor status is a privileged academic position at the University of Strathclyde and reflects Scott’s eminent profile within the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering where he commenced his research career prior to joining AWE.

The University of Strathclyde recently became AWE’s strategic alliance partner to drive innovation in nuclear science and technology.

Scott said: “I am deeply honoured to be recognised by the University of Strathclyde in this way which reflects my long-standing interactions with the university, while also providing an opportunity to further strengthen technical collaboration between our two organisations. At Strathclyde, I conducted research in fibre optic sensor technology, and I was able to later use this expertise to guide and influence the technical direction of sensor development at AWE.

This is a particularly exciting time for the relationship between AWE and Strathclyde – with this new strategic partnership offering opportunities for innovation across our technical programmes.”

Professor Emeritus of Microsystems Engineering, Deepak Uttamchandani, said: “AWE’s science and technology profile within the University has been considerably enhanced through our interactions with Scott McCulloch over the years on topics such as photonics and sensing. It is a pleasure that Scott has accepted the position of Visiting Professor in view of his many significant contributions to the field, and this will further strengthen the strategic links between our two organisations.”
