Our engineers once again recognised by the Whitworth Society

We are delighted to announce that all four of our shortlisted applicants for prestigious 2024 Whitworth Scholarship Awards were successful. Congratulations to:

  • Adam – Facility Engineer
  • Richard – Facility Engineer
  • Charlie – Design Engineer
  • Jack – Mechanical Engineer

The Whitworth Scholarship Awards recognise exceptional academic ability, outstanding practical skills and the qualities required to succeed in industry. They are the UK’s most prestigious award for engineers who have completed a level 2-5 apprenticeship and are now pursuing a university degree.

This builds on our 2023 achievement when three out of five of our applicants were successful. And one of our previous Whitworth Scholarship Award Holders was elected as a Whitworth Scholar. Congratulations to:

  • Christopher – Design Engineer

“Congratulations to Adam, Richard, Charlie and Jack on their Whitworth Scholarship Awards and to Christopher on becoming a Whitworth Scholar – a very prestigious achievement and one to be proud of. I am delighted that the training and development we offer our people is being recognised in this way. I am determined that we maintain a virtuous circle of current Whitworth Scholarship Award Holders coaching others to emulate their success.”

Mandy Savage, Executive Director Engineering

Upon graduating, award holders are elected as Whitworth Scholars and receive a Whitworth medal, individually crafted by the Royal Mint, and the entitlement to use the letters ‘WhSch’ after their name. They join an exclusive community of Whitworth Scholars, many of whom hold senior positions in academia and industry.

Martin, Engineering Talent Lead said: “Special thanks go to Christopher, who received coaching and guidance for his Scholarship Award application last year and did the same for our successful applicants this year.”

The Whitworth Society, named after the visionary engineer and inventor, Sir Joseph Whitworth provides an informal contact between all ages of Whitworth Scholar and a means to promote outstanding engineers and engineering in the UK.
