AWE presented with Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award
Jason Holmes and Ian Moore were formally presented with AWE’s Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award at an awards ceremony at London’s Victory Services Club. Talent Acquisition’s Jason works tirelessly to raise AWE’s profile with the Armed Forces community and wrote our submission for the Gold Award. Ian is Head of our veterans, reservists and cadet volunteers’ community.
The Employer Recognition Scheme is open to organisations who have pledged their support for the Armed Forces Covenant. Its Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards recognise the positive role that employers play in supporting national defence and inspiring others to do the same.
AWE joins an exclusive club of fewer than 200 organisations that have been recognised by the UK Government with the highest badge of honour for supporting the Armed Forces community.
Gold Award winners are powerful advocates of the Armed Forces Covenant, actively engaging with their peers, encouraging them to employ Armed Forces personnel, veterans, and their families, and providing robust and sustained support for reservists and cadet volunteers.
The event was an ideal opportunity to meet fellow Gold Award winners, to understand how they support their veterans, reservists and cadet volunteers’ communities and how we can learn from them and share our own experiences.
Evidence we provided to support our submission for the Gold Award included:
- Growing the size and influence of our veterans, reservists and cadet volunteers’ community to 500
- Increasing the provision of paid special leave to cover reservists’ commitments
- Attendance, sponsorship and organisation of careers-fair type events
- Developing our cadets towards a BTEC in Aerospace Studies and BTECs and City and Guilds in teamwork, leadership and management
- Signing up to Fighting with Pride’s Pride in Veterans Standard
- Proactively advocating commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant to partner organisations and suppliers.
Jason said, “I was truly honoured to be asked to attend the awards ceremony. We are working hard to ensure the way we attract, recruit, onboard and develop our people is Armed Forces friendly and that work will continue. In parallel, we are working to extend our reach into the Armed Forces, so that anyone making that important first step after a career in the military, thinks of AWE before they think of anyone else.”
Ian said, “AWE’s award of the Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award is great news. It’s the culmination of a great team effort, with most working way beyond the boundaries of their day jobs to provide support. Our veteran and reservist community truly believe that AWE is a great place for military personnel to work and want to share that sentiment with the wider Armed Forces community. The Gold Award gives us a great platform to do so.”
