AWE teams excel at UK Challenge 2024

For over three decades, the UK Challenge has been providing companies with a mental and physical team competition, with entries from businesses and organisations across the UK.

Hailed as the “World’s Leading Team Building Event”, the UK Challenge is made up of seven stages involving problem solving and outdoor challenges across running, cycling and kayaking. The winners are those with lowest total time after completing all the stages.,

This year’s event ran from 27 June-30 June, with the beautiful, but unforgiving backdrop of Dartmoor as the venue for all seven stages. AWE entered four teams in this year’s event and all did fantastically well, with all teams coming in the top twenty including winning two of the team categories.

· The Men’s team came 3rd overall and the Mixed team came 5th overall. The Ladies team came 16th overall, winning the Ladies category and the Novice team, for those who hadn’t entered before, came 6th overall, winning the novice category.

Thomas, one of our team captains said;

“This year’s UK challenge was another amazing experience but was also extremely tough, the hills and the heat made it a real test of physical and mental strength.

“ The entire squad came together this weekend to ensure success for not only their own teams but all teams, and I think the results speak for themselves.

“I am so proud of everyone for their dedication and determination shown not only this weekend but, leading up to the event too!”

VE Day at Aldermaston

80 years ago, the European part of the Second World War came to an end. On the 8th of May 1945 - known as Victory in Europe Day or VE Day - celebrations erupted around the world to mark this.  Aldermaston had played its part in the liberation of Western Europe as it formed the launch point and training ground for American airborne operations for the 101st Airborne Division, nicknamed the "Screaming Eagles”, during D-Day a year earlier and the failed Operation Market Garden.
