A Stonewall silver award for AWE’s commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion

AWE is incredibly proud to announce that it has achieved a prestigious silver award and been ranked within the top 200 companies for the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index (WEI) 2022.The Stonewall WEI is a benchmarking tool that assesses a company’s achievements and progress on LGBTQ+ equality.

AWE is com​mitted to equality at work and to mainstreaming diversity and inclusion in all aspects of its work, and central to this is its Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Strategy focussed on creating a culture where everyone can thrive.

​The D&I strategy shows the key areas that have been identified to progress inclusion at AWE, and this includes undertaking benchmarking with our strategic partners, such as Stonewall, and putting best practice into place as well as ensuring our policies, systems and processes are up to date and inclusive of all.

Haydn Clulow, Executive Director Operations and Executive Director for the AWE Pride Working Group says, “To receive a silver award in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index and to rank in the top 200 employers is a fantastic achievement for AWE. It shows how invested AWE and its people are in diversity and inclusion and creating an environment where everyone can thrive. AWE Pride is one of a number of employee-led working groups who represent diversity at AWE. These groups encourage conversations and promote understanding to create a healthy working environment for all people.

AWE joins RAICo

The Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Collaboration (RAICo) has announced the addition of AWE – a UK leader in nuclear technology and innovation – as its fifth member organisation. AWE joins the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), Sellafield Ltd, the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), and the University of Manchester in this integrated collaboration.

VE Day at Aldermaston

80 years ago, the European part of the Second World War came to an end. On the 8th of May 1945 - known as Victory in Europe Day or VE Day - celebrations erupted around the world to mark this.  Aldermaston had played its part in the liberation of Western Europe as it formed the launch point and training ground for American airborne operations for the 101st Airborne Division, nicknamed the "Screaming Eagles”, during D-Day a year earlier and the failed Operation Market Garden.
