AWE’s Dave Castle is the new Chair of IED

AWE’s Dave Castle IEng RCADMan FIED MBCS CITP is the new Chair of the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED) the professional membership body for designers working in the fields of engineering and product design.

Dave was elected vice-Chair in 2018, Chair-Elect in early 2021 and officially took up his new role following the IED’s AGM on 10 July.

He said: “I am very proud to have been elected as Chair of the IED. I follow in the footsteps of many distinguished engineers and designers. It is a great privilege to take on this position; the IED influences and inspires professionals the world over and plays a key role in advancing innovation and achievement.
“Design and engineering touch every aspect of our lives and also have an important part to play in meeting the significant challenges of our time, such as sustainability and climate change. I very much look forward to working with the IED council and our members over the next year.”

Libby Meyrick, Chief Executive IED said  ‘We’re delighted that Dave has been elected to the role of Chair at this very exciting time for the IED.  We have a busy couple of years planned and are grateful that Dave is able to lend his leadership skills to the Institution to help guide us through the next two years’.

The IED holds a Royal Charter to register those working in Product Design, and as a Professional Engineering Institution (PEI) can register those working in Engineering Design. The IED can also register those designers with either the Chartered Environmentalist or Registered Environmental Practitioner who wish to emphasize their Environmental credentials and who meet the requirements for registration. Additionally, the IED registers professional users of Computer Aided Design Systems with either the Registered CAD Manager (RCADMan) or Registered CAD Practitioner (RCP) professional registrations.
