Careers event is a real hit

Over 3,500 people visited the AWE stands at the recently held Skills London 2018 event, at ExCel London, to find out about our graduate and apprenticeship programmes and the exciting career opportunities we have available.

Supported by AWE apprentices and graduates, our stands had a number of exciting hand-on exhibits which included ‘super minibots’, the opportunity to immerse yourself in a virtual world, and an array of ‘tiny targets’ – typically the size of a grain of sugar – used to support our world-leading Orion laser to see how materials behave in extreme conditions. There was also the chance to ‘get skilled’ through a series of interactive tutorials and demos undertaken at our award-winning Skills Academy.

Skills London is the UK’s biggest jobs and careers event for 14-24-year-olds. Last year, they welcomed over 33,000 visitors and 240 exhibitors including employers, universities, colleges and training providers. With this many exhibitors under one roof, they were able to offer young people a total of 55,000 job opportunities including apprenticeships.

The two-day event provides visitors with the opportunity to discover careers through interactive, inspirational activities and demonstrations, and helps young people visually bridge the gap between what they enjoy doing and what they could potentially do as a career.

AWE project manager for Skills London, Paul Sagoo, said, “It was fantastic to see so many people visit our stands and engage with us on  many levels with our inspirational and knowledgeable graduates and apprentices – to find out what we do, why our work is important, and the range of job opportunities we have on offer.

“We made a really strong impression on the visitors and many were amazed by our science and engineering capability! I am sure people will take the time to apply and eventually join us through our presence at Skills London.”
